HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

The 18th Lessedra World Art Print Annual-Mini Print 2019, in Bulgaria, takes place this year from June 19th until September 30th. Three of my screenprints have been chosen for the exhibition, including ” Day”.I have also been invited to exhibit in Enter into Art, in various venues in Germany. My batik “Autumn Dawn” (see May News) has been purchased by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for the County Collection.

The 189th RHA Annual Exhibition takes place this year in the Gallagher Gallery ,15 Ely Place,Dublin 2 from today, May 21st until August 10th. There are over 500 works on display, including my screenprint “Earth”.

My batik Autumn Dawn is included in the exhibition “Taking Time”, running in the Municipal Gallery, dlr Lexicon,Moran Park, Dún Laoghaire until Sunday 9 June. The exhibition is curated by Orlaith Ross in collaboration with members of the Men’s Shed Network, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. This network brings men together to learn new skills and to share their own skills with others in the group. The exhibition features the work of 12 makers in different disciplines.

50 years ago today, on the 17th February 1969, while still a student in the National College of Art and Design, I signed a lease on a garden flat in Herbert Place, along the canal, in Dublin 2. I knew that I wanted to make my living as a painter and to do that I needed a studio.The lease was for 2 years and 9 months and the rent was around £30 a month; I stayed there for 17 very happy years, before moving on to a place of my own.

I am now back from a few weeks in Indonesia,which is considered to be the home of Batik and where some of the best traditional Batik in the world is made. The makers there produce extraordinary and beautiful fabric,using the most basic of equipment.

I’m showing a selection of work in the Greenacres’ Opera Festival exhibition. I have also been chosen to exhibit 4 screen prints,including “Island”, in the Ink Shop’s 20th Mini Print International Exhibition, Ithaca, NY,USA.

Curator Paul Mc Kenna has selected my screen print Distant Sun for the exhibition “Gathering”in King House, Boyle, Co.Roscommon. Part of the long running Boyle Arts Festival, “Gathering” is open from 19-28 July 2018 and is showing the work of 145 artists.

I have been accepted into two open submission print exhibitions this month. They are the 30th Mini Print International of Cadaqués,Spain, and the 17th Lessedra World Art Print Annual 2018, Bulgaria. Sienna Rocks is one of the screen prints I will be exhibiting.
